Adding up what the FP-C costs

  • First attempt: $385 at list price; the affiliate rate and the partner-association discount are in the table.
  • Each retake: the full fee again, so a fail doubles the cost of getting certified.
  • Renewal: $385 at list price every 4 years, whether you renew by continuing education or by testing again.
  • Avoidable extras: switching the exam or the delivery mode, a late date change, and continuing education filed late each carry their own fee.

Fees paid stay on account rather than lapsing, which matters if you have to move a date.

From application to a booked seat

  1. Open an account. Create it on the board's site before you apply.
  2. Apply and pay. Upload your paramedic license with the application; it must be current and unrestricted.
  3. Wait for eligibility. Two of the board's pages disagree on the wait (both in the table); plan for the longer one and keep the minimum lead time before your test date.
  4. Book with Prometric. The eligibility number is what the scheduling system asks for, and it is valid for 1 year.
  5. Pick the delivery mode before you book: switching it later costs a fee.

Test center, remote or onsite

You can test at a Prometric center, remotely through ProProctor with a live proctor, or at an IBSC MedBox session hosted by a conference or a program; the network of centers is described in the table.

For a remote session, run the vendor's system check on the computer and network you will actually use, and test from a room you can clear completely. Onsite sessions suit candidates whose program or conference hosts one, since there is no travel to a center; the board's office arranges them directly.

Two rescheduling rules, one stricter

The fee page and the handbook disagree on late changes, and the table gives both. The handbook's schedule is stricter, with a higher fee in the final days, no same-day cancellation and a charge to reset a missed date. Plan by it, and move a doubtful date while the change is still free.

Paying for and booking the flight paramedic exam

Is there a member price?

Yes, two kinds: an affiliate membership of the board itself, and a discount for members of some partner associations. Both are in the fee table; compare the membership cost with the saving before you join only for the discount.

If I cannot test, do I lose the fee?

Not if you move the date in time. Fees are not refunded but do not expire, and the fee page lets you change the date for free when you do it early enough (see the table). Missing the appointment, or arriving too late to be seated, costs the whole fee.

Is there a remote FP-C option?

Yes, through Prometric's ProProctor: a proctor watches by webcam while you test from a quiet, closed room on a machine that has cleared the system check first.
